lets start the break down on the "Gray Man" theory.
Gray man: The basic statement for this is "been seen, but not remembered."
Hiding in plain site, wall flower, sheep and so on. Basically you want to be able to bug out while looking like you belong, your just another unprepared person like everyone else.
That means to me:
NO huge 80 Liter hiking bag, Not strapped up in full kit or with a tacticool bag.
Blend in with your surroundings, just act like everyone else but know that your different.
Bags:
Good backpacks of choice are simple colored school bags, smaller "adventure" style bags, commuter style and messenger bags. Simple style bags blend in better even if they aren't the easiest to use or hold the most stuff. The whole idea is just to get out of where you are in one piece with your gear.
Clothes:
Clothes should be non descriptive plain colored, and common fashion.
such as solid color t shirts, jeans or blended materials. dress accordingly to season of course. but try to avoid BDUs,range clothing and branded clothes such as a shirt that says: Glock,5.11,Nowhere County EMS&FIRE etc.
Being aware of where, when you are, for example- wearing a Red soxs hat in NYC will get you noticed. and in normal times beat up. (insert laughs here)
No bright colors or extraordinary designs like v necks or super frilly shirts.
The main idea behind being gray, is just that. Your appearance should be non memorable and or so plain looking someone couldn't recall ever seeing you.
Gear:
While in Gray man mode, you really don't want your gear being shown around to others. shovels and axes strapped to bags attract a lot of attention, and not in a good way.
Also another big thing that Screams "LOOK AT ME" is long boom sticks, and other non concealed things that go PEW PEW. The AR7 and sub2000 are awesome things to consider as they are much easier to conceal in a bag. IWB holsters are a great thing, basically don't looked armed until you have to. On that note, Taking out field monocular or a expensive compass will just be a red flag that you actually know what your doing and people will either raid you for your gear or try and follow you. You almost want to feel like an undercover spy and just blend in.
There are many things to also consider just as urban bugging, how far your home is from work and or any major obstacles like bridges and mountain passes you may have to pass or get around as others will be trying to as well or have it guarded. This is just a basic break down of the theory and I will be expanding on the subject more in a video soon.
Blend in and watch your 6.
