First aid and trauma kits are essential things to have. You should have one in your house, car, at work, in the workshop, camping gear, bug-out bag, etc. There are many commercially available kits available for those who don't want to build one even if I recommend it.
I'll break them down into 4 different levels and go over what should be in them and or the general use of them.
Basic First aid- The basic kit is just as it sounds....basic. good for the glove box or work desk. These kits are in almost every major retailer and everywhere on the internet. These kits would include the essentials such as:
Band-aids "plasters" what every you want to call them. a few of different sizes.
pin or safety pin
medical tape
Triple antibacterial cream
blister "stickers"
a few alcohol wipes
and usually, a few more odds n ends.
Intermediate or "plus" kits- The Basic kit plus more! Great for the day bag, car, or camping at your favorite campground.
All Basic kit items are in a higher quantity and usually more specific items.
bug bite cream
burn cream
roll gauze and cloth tape.
tweezers
thermometer
butterfly strips
medical pliers
and a few more things such as bite kits or a wrap.
Advanced kits- The whole First aid cabinet on the go. For the Bug out bag, Wilderness camping, Construction job site, workshop, or at home.
All basic and intermediate items with more variety and quantity.
Medical shears or Trauma shears
quick clot
bleed stop bandages and such items
tourniquet(s)
SAM splints
chest dressings
ice packs
heat packs
finger or small bone splints
common medicines (aspirin, ibuprofen)
antihistamines for allergic reactions.
throat spray, cough drops, etc.
Anti-diarrhea medicine
heartburn medicine
cotton tip swabs or "qtips"

nonrebreather
NPA or OPA
Bag valve mask
AED
glucose
and many more, If I need to list then you most likely are not trained on how to use them right.
